Viola Beintken

Viola Beintken M.A.

Here's a bit about me, my approach to counselling, and background experience.

About my approach

My approach to counselling is based on Narrative Therapy and Collaborative Practice. It is my goal to offer you a sheltered setting to talk about your thoughts and feelings without being judged or criticised. When problems come into our lifes they might blind us and hinder us to find our resources, strengths and abilities. In our work together I aim to help you uncover these resources and draw forward the strengths and abilities that are helpful in limiting or eliminating the problem's influence on your life.

I specialise in working with children (8+), adolescents, and adults who are dealing with anxiety, depression, grief, and parenting concerns. This includes individuals and families who are affected by Autism and Asperger's Syndrome. When suitable, I enjoy offering creative and playful approaches, utilising all kinds of materials and ideas, e.g. writing, art materials, small figures, etc.

My Background

I hold a Master's degree in Special Education and a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling. I am a full member of The New Zealand Association of Counsellors (NZAC).

Through working in different roles in the helping professions over the past 20 years I have extensive experience in working with children, adolescents, adults and families from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds in groups and individually. This includes working with people who are affected by Autism and Down Syndrome.

Originally I am from Germany. After living in the US for 6 years I moved to NZ in 2012 together with my husband and our four children.

I am offering my services in the English and German language. [Gern biete ich Therapie (Einzelgespräche und Gruppenarbeit) auch in deutscher Sprache an.]
